About Goodname Finance

A lender run by Alana Uganda Limited. We lend to people that someone we can reach is willing to vouch for.

Who we are

Goodname Finance is the lending business of Alana Uganda Limited, a company registered in Uganda. We are a money lender regulated by the Uganda Microfinance Regulatory Authority (UMRA) under the Tier 4 Microfinance Institutions and Money Lenders Act 2016. We are not a bank and we do not take deposits.

We lend in Uganda shillings to salary earners, businesses, groups and institutions. Our approach is lending by recommendation: before a loan can be submitted, someone who knows the borrower vouches for them and a member of our staff confirms it.

What we stand for

  • Plain pricing. The amount, interest, fees and every instalment are written down in whole shillings before you accept.
  • Lending within the law. Interest is capped at 2.8% a month by Legal Notice No. 21 of 2024, and we do not price above it.
  • Checks done by people. Recommendations, guarantors and collateral are verified by staff, and a second person confirms.
  • Care with your information. We handle personal data under the Data Protection and Privacy Act 2019.

Why recommendation, and not paperwork alone

Many people in Uganda earn steadily and repay faithfully but have nothing a credit file can show. We ask the people who know them.

  • A recommender speaks for your character and your work.
  • We call them, and a second staff member confirms what they say.
  • Guarantors and collateral are pledged for each loan, so you and we know exactly what backs it.
  • Repay on time and your borrowing limit grows.

How we work

Our process has several people involved on purpose, so that no single person can approve a loan alone. The full steps are written out on their own page.

  • Recommended, then confirmed

A recommender vouches for you and a second staff member confirms it by phone.

  • Security for each loan

Guarantors and collateral are named at application and verified before the loan goes forward.

  • Approval by staff

A staff member approves the loan and authorises the payout before any money moves.

  • Paid to your own account

MTN MoMo, Airtel Money or bank. Group loans go only to the group's account.

How money moves

  • MTN MoMo
  • Airtel Money
  • IOTec Pay

Questions before you apply?

A loan officer can explain the process, the price and what each person involved is asked to do.
